Teaching without preaching, the book provides an overview of common security issues and provides plenty of thought-provoking, conversation-inspiring discussion. 2. CyberShockWinn Schwartau provides an excellent layman's guide to "surviving hackers, phreakers, identity thieves, Internet terrorists, and weapons of mass disruption". Laying out the perils we face online, CyberShock plays a valuable role in raising users' security awareness, helping to make the Internet a safer place for all. 3. Cyber SpyingThis book is subtitled "Tracking Your Family's (sometimes) Secret Online Lives", but it could also serve in the reverse sense - a how-to for covering your own tracks. Most of all, it provides an excellent overview of the critical system areas that are frequent targets of virus, spyware, and other malware authors. Written in a style that even a complete computer novice can understand. 4. Protecting Yourself OnlineWritten by members of the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), this book covers everything from protecting your identity and privacy, to tips for protecting against hackers, viruses, and other malicious activity.
