Even so, it could be a sign that virus writers are beginning to research ways of writing new code capable of infecting multiple platforms, said Shane Coursen, senior technical consultant at Kaspersky. Behavior Adware.AdDestroyer claims to be a spyware remover, but it sets itself to run when Windows starts and remains memory resident on the compromised computer. When it runs, the software will periodically attempt to contact a server to download updates and instructions.
Some versions may display pop-up advertisements in Internet Explorer, claiming that the computer is at risk and that the user should purchase an upgrade to AdDestroyer.
Symptoms The files are detected as Adware.AdDestroyer.
Transmission This adware program must be manually installed or installed as a component of another program.
